Six Genesee County Health Department employees in quarantine after one contracts COVID-19
GENESEE COUNTY, MI — Six employees of the county Health Department are in quarantine at home after one of them contracted COVID-19.
Health Officer John McKellar confirmed the positive coronavirus case in an email to MLive-The Flint Journal and said the staff in his office and the Genesee District Court, which shares the McCree Health and Human Services Building with the department, have been notified.
The building at 630 S. Saginaw St., Flint, remains open to the public, McKellar said. The five employees who had close contact with the employee who contracted COVID-19, he said, have been in quarantine at home, monitoring for symptoms since last week.
There have been 3,583 cases of coronavirus and 281 deaths reported to the Health Department since the pandemic started earlier this year.
The McCree Building was originally a Montgomery Ward department store and it underwent an approximate $4-million renovation in 2018 and 2019. Part of that work involved opening up office space for the county Friend of the Court Office as well, but the agency is not yet fully operational in that office due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
