Digestive Health Clinical Partnership Opens In Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin officials on Wednesday announced the opening of Digestive Health, a clinical partnership bringing together highly specialized providers into a team-based system of care.

Officials described an innovative multidisciplinary program integrating gastroenterology and GI surgery, Digestive Health is bolstered by advanced diagnostics, nutritional services, and clinical social work all in a single clinic, led by specialists focused on patient outcomes, cutting-edge research, and teaching the next generation of physicians.

“This is our first clinical practice partnership with UT Health Austin, bringing together the best of clinical and operational expertise to expand our specialty care to serve our community,” Clay Carsner, Chief Operating Officer at Ascension Medical Group in Texas, said in a prepared statement. “Together, we are advancing the latest research and technological developments in this field of medicine and building an integrated system of care that is a collaborative resource for clinicians and their patients.”

Added C. Martin Harris, M.D., UT Health Austin’s Health Enterprise associate vice president and professor of Internal Medicine at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin: “This partnership allows patients and families to stay close to home for all of their health care needs, making our team-based model of care more convenient than ever before.” UT Health Austin is the clinical practice of Dell Med, officials noted.

Digestive Health, including the heartburn and esophageal disorders program, is led by Medical Director and Dell Med Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Deepak Agrawal, M.D., MPH, and surgical director F. Paul “Tripp” Buckley, M.D., associate professor in Dell Med’s Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. Agrawal and Buckley will lead a team of GI and surgical subspecialists, officials said in an emailed advisory.

“More than 60 million Americans are affected by digestive diseases, and the available diagnostic and treatment options are increasing in number and complexity,” Agrawal said in a prepared statement. “Digestive Health offers advanced care for inflammatory bowel disease, liver, pancreas, colon and esophagus, working closely with surgeons, dieticians, social workers, and others to help patients find the right treatment options for their needs.”
