“As distant learning continues, it’s left students that face abuse and neglect at home without a reprise and without a teacher to pick up on those vital signs,” said Spurs Give Executive Director Jennifer Regnier. “Schools often serve as sanctuaries, an escape from home for many abused and neglected children. It was crucial for us to not only address those issues at hand but also to help combat them. These two incredible organizations do powerful work in the community and drive positive and purposeful change for those young victims and their families. This fight is personal. No child should feel powerless, no child should feel alone. We are proud to be in a county that commits to fighting against the recent rise

St. Vincent’s, Hartford Health donate $50,000 to food pantry

Usually, when someone is having an anniversary, the custom is for them to receive gifts, not give them.

But St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport chose to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its acquisition by Hartford HealthCare — which took place Thursday — by giving $50,000 to the Bishop Jean Williams Food Pantry, also in Bridgeport.

The donation will help to reduce food insecurity, provide nutritious meals and further education about healthy eating, the organization said.

“We are so grateful and so thankful,” said Pastor Mary Green, of the Bishop Jean Williams Food Pantry, during a press conference Thursday to announce the donation.

The pantry provides emergency meals to low-to-moderate families that are food insecure. Families are able to shop on a weekly basis. The program is part of the Park City Initiative Corp., which helps families in need improve their quality of life.

During Thursday’s event, leaders from St.

MPTF Country Home Residents Have Gone Five-Plus Months Without A New COVID-19 Infection; Katzenbergs Donate $455,000 In Matching Funds

EXCLUSIVE: The Motion Picture & Television Fund’s nursing home in Woodland Hills was hit hard by the coronavirus in the early days of the pandemic. Seventeen residents were infected between March 31 and April 12, and six died. Since then, however, the home has seen a remarkable comeback in its battle against COVID-19: Not a single resident has tested positive in nearly six months.

Rapid turnaround testing, quarantining, PPE, attention to detail and lots of money are the keys to success. The home is spending $75,000 a month for PPE and testing alone and has performed more than 8,000 nose-swab tests of staff and residents. To help cover those costs, the MPTF’s Evening Before pre-Emmy party raised more than $1.7 million, including $455,000 in matching funds from Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg.

In April, the Country Home set up its own lab, acquired testing devices and supplies and began an aggressive
